Public Apology

I feel the need to write this as I have inadvertently upset someone I considered a friend.

I have just received a reply from an e-mail I wrote them (I thought a very friendly and tactful mail) to enlighten them to a spelling mistake on a card they'd done.
I have done this in the past - always via a private e-mail, never in comments - as I'd feel awful ignoring it and would also hope others would do the same to me as my spelling is not the best.
However this time the recipient was not happy with me and it appears I have upset her. I do hope she sees this and accepts my apology - I would never intend to offend or upset anyone.
Maybe I shouldn't do it anymore!

  1. Sweetie I know you would of meant well & hopefully the person is just having a bad day & maybe with 1 thing after another they took it a wrong way. I'm sure they will come to realise that you meant no harm hun. I personally would hope you dont stop doing it I would rather be told than to send it off to someone & them have to sit & look up at a card with a clear mistake on it. Hopefully everything will work out with you & your friend shug.....true friends always understand & will stand by you.

  3. Aww Carol sorry to hear this :-( Perhaps the person you have 'upset' is just having a bad day and took it the wrong way. I personally would rather know if I had made a spelling mistake and hopefully your friend will realise it too.

    I would like to think that someone would tell me if I dropped a clanger and if you did it by email I don't see the need to get upset about it being pointed out. Even ina comment I wouldn't mind if someone came out with some constructive criticism. Always feel free to tell me what you really think.

  7. Oh Carol I feel bad for you and hope you work it out.
    I also like everyone above would really appreciate you letting me know.
    Try not to take it personal, sometimes well intentioned words don't help.
    I had a challenge entry contact me a few weeks ago about a comment I left and I used one word in a strange context and she outed me and was very upset with "my opinion" made me feel awful. All I could do is apologize and hoped she got over it.
    Has made me choose very simple words in my commenting now.

  8. Don't be upset, your good intentions were there, she was probably having a bad day. Sometimes people don't understand constructive comments. If she's a good friend, she'll understand eventually.

  9. Carol you know what? Someone who is prepared to publicy say sorry like this like you have, is in my opinion worth their weight in gold! Hopefully the person will read this and realise it and not risk lose you hun x sending you a big hug x Leigh x

  10. Unless you informed them in a patronising way then I really don't see the problem and don't think that you have any reason to apologise. I'd appreciate someone pointing a booboo like that out to me, especially if it was done in private, and if friends can't do this then who can?

  11. You definitely should NOT stop pointing it out. Since you do it in e-mails it's just a personal gesture to show you care. I appreciate things like that and if I make a spelling error on a card, please please tell me. I mean in a blog post is one thing - who cares of spelling - but on a card that might be sent off to someone, the maker would want it to be perfect. Right?

  12. Don't feel bad, I'm sure you were very tactful. I have been told in the past of a spelling error on my card and was most greatful. I managed to rectify it before the recipient received the card and was so thankful. Elaine

I would much rather receive an email from someone who was kind enough to let me know that there was a spelling mistake, thus giving me a chance to rectify it, than not be informed & not realise. We are after all, only human, & we all make spelling mistakes, which we often don't realise at the time. Don't worry yourself over it Carol. You're such a kind & giving person, I know that you did not set out to cause any offence. (((hugs))) xx
